SO TSOH won all but one of the prizes.  Mr. Davis will prepare an article for the newsletter.  Very good outing!  Meeting dates are 3/11 and 3/28.

Scoutmaster’s Report

Mr. Wilt was not present at the Committee meeting because he was at ALT this weekend.  Mr. Smith provided the following input for the Scoutmaster’s Report.  The Troop continues to monitor attendance records to determine whether scouts can qualify for rank advancements and other activities.  To be considered active, the scout must participate in 60% of the meetings and 60% of the campouts.  Make sure your scout is active in the Troop!  We will not have a meeting during Spring Break week (Tuesday, March 12, 2002).

Scouting for Food had 41,895 items of food collected this year!  This was almost 11,000 items more than last year and almost 4,000 more than the Council’s goal.  Great work scouts!

Scout Show is coming up soon.  Ticket sales will be starting 3/20/2002.  Scouts can earn awards for selling Scout Show tickets, as follows:

  • 15 tickets – Bike bottle
  • 25 tickets – Patch
  • 50 tickets - $25.00 gift certificate
  • 100 tickets – another $25.00 gift certificate
  • Can earn a chance to win a mountain bike

The White Rock District is offering five (5) Eagle required merit badge and seven (7) elective badge classes on Saturday, March 9th.  A Citizenship in the World merit badge class will be held on two Saturdays, April 13th and May 4th, in Coppell from 9 a.m. to noon.  A Citizenship in the Nation merit badge class will be held on Saturday, May 18th, in Coppell from 9 a.m. to noon.  See Advancements for scheduling.  You can contact Hank Martin at Hank@ThankShank.com for more information.  Mr. Smith can also provide additional details.  Merit Badge College #1 will be held at North Lake from July 8th through July 12th, 2002.  This is the week just before Summer Camp.  There will be four (4) Eagle required merit badges and twelve (12) elective badges offered.  The cost is $15.00 per session.  The scout must be 13 years of age prior to attending class.

Camporee will be held on April 5th through the 7th at Old City Bluebonnet Park on Lake Bardwell in Ennis, Texas.  The park and lake are managed by the Corp of Engineers.  Camping will be Jamboree style.  No digging or ground fires, must have fire boxes for charcoal and wood fire.  Need to bring your own wood and water.  There will be water buffalo’s for use; however, supply will be somewhat limited.  A conservation project will be completed during the day.  Early registration is on 3/18/92 and will cost $7.00 per person.  After 3/18/02, the cost will be $10.00 per person.  Park is south of Ennis on I-45.  Webelos crossing over will have their applications with them on the night of their crossover.  However, bring extra applications with us.

Oakleaf training will be held next weekend and we have nine (9) scouts going.

Senior Patrol Leader Report

Our newly elected SPL, John Lang, attended his first meeting.  Retiring SPL, Matt Fuglie, attended in case Mr. Lang couldn’t attend.  Welcome, John and thank you very much for your past service to the Troop, Matt!  Matt McCabe is new historian.  Most positions are filled.  There are a few positions still open.

Outdoor Activities

Mrs. Schreibfeder discussed details of the next scheduled camp out.  Those planning on attending the next camp out will be leaving Friday, March 1st at 5:30 p.m. from the SLRBC.  Fossil Rim tour on Saturday will cost $6.00 per scout.  Fossil Rim is open on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.  Fossil Rim trek is 9-1/2 miles long.  The scouts will be camping at “Broken on the Brazos”, right on the river.  Restrooms are glorified out houses.  Need to bring your own water.  Bring fishing poles because it is right on the river.  Easy and quick to get from camp site to Glen Rose.  We are expected around 7:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the camp site on Friday evening.  Mr. Smith is the Tour Leader.  Mr. Hohnholt is the secondary Tour Leader.

April’s campout will be the Camporee weekend.  The Camporee map is available on the website.  Money for each scout that will be camping must be turned in by March 5th Troop meeting.  The cost is $7.00 per scout.  See comments above about the camporee under the Scoutmaster’s Report.

Our May campout is scheduled for May 17th through May 19th and will involve a canoe trip.  The SPL has decided that Fairfield State Park, which is located half way between Dallas and Houston on the Navasota River, will be the site for this campout.  We need to bring our own canoes.  Mr. Kim will call Mrs. Otwell and find out where they rented the canoes last time.  Mr. Piper will look for the canoe rental receipt, too, and see if he can determine where we rented the canoes last time.

Our June campout date is set for June 8th.  Place is to be determined later.

July campout information has been distributed.  Adults have been identified (Mr. Green, Mr. Wilt, Mr. Bohn and Mr. Hohnholt will be going).

Treasurer’s Report

Mr. Piper provided the Treasurer’s Report.  Have $17,155.49 in the account as of 02/23/2002.  Most of the money is allocated to Scout Bucks.  We need to reconcile the Wyoming Rebate and Northern Tier Rebate so we don’t have to carry these as individual items.  Popcorn account balance is $1182.56.  However, we don’t have the listing of which scouts are entitled to receive these funds.  Matt Bohn will work with Annette Ezelle to get Scout sales records.

Mr. Piper has informed us that he has ten (10) months to go until his term expires.  We need to have a volunteer to take on the Treasurer’s responsibility.  Any volunteers?!

Equipment Report

Mr. Kim provided the report.  The quartermasters must be here on Tuesday so the chuck boxes are put back onto the trailer in preparation for our campout next weekend.  After receiving many tents from scouts this past week, the Troop has fourteen (14) complete tents on the trailer.  We have one more at Mr. Green’s house which will be returned.  We have three (3) more tents at Charles Kinzle’s house.  At least one is complete.  There is one with a rip and maybe one with pole issues.  Mr. Langworthy has taken the three (3) tents without poles and is trying to figure out how to provide replacement poles at a reduced cost to the Troop.

Mr. Langworthy has had the trailer weighed.  It is 4210 pounds.  There is a weight slip inside the door.  He had the tires inspected and the consensus is that only the outer layer of the tires are cracking.  This is a cosmetic issue and not a safety issue.  We should probably schedule replacement of the tires next year.

Membership

Mrs. Lacey said it is re-charter time.  Packets have been given to all of the Scouts that were at last Tuesday’s meeting.  If we become aware of cross-over events, please inform Mrs. Lacey so she can have a complete pack of information to be given to the parents of the potential scout.  Mrs. Lacey will have these packets available by March 1st.  March 19th is the deadline to get re-charter packets back.

We need to have the Camporee deposits in from the scouts by Tuesday, March 5th.  Please see Mrs. Schreibfeder for details.  The cost is $7.00 per scout.

Buck Auction

Monday, May 13th, 2002 is the date scheduled for the annual Scout Buck Auction.  Dr. Lacey is still coordinating the acquisition and set up for this event.  He could use some assistance.  Please volunteer!

Transportation

Mr. Rabbitt said transportation is going very well.  No problems have been identified so far.  Very thin camping scheduled for the next camp out due to conflicts (Adult Leader Training, Oak Leaf training and band events).

High Adventure 2002

Mr. Hohnholt reported there are still two (2) open slots for this trek.  February 27th is the cutoff date for adding new members.  April 14th or 28th will be a scheduling sailing date for the Sea Base group.  Mr. Smith is trying to schedule this.  The 28th is the first choice for this event.

Advancement

David Day is filling out his paperwork for Eagle.  We are doing Board of Reviews only on one Tuesday per month.  The SPL will determine which Tuesday of the month will be set for this to occur.  The badges are typically handed out the first Tuesday of the month.  Perhaps the last Tuesday of the month would be the best date.  However, the SPL will determine and report back to the Committee.

May 21st is the next Court of Honor.  It will be held at 7:00 p.m. here at SLRBC.  We could use some help in Advancement.  Consider volunteering your time if you can.

Mr. Dunn has completed his wood badge.

Venture

Introductory class for scuba tomorrow (Sunday, 24th Feb).  Leaving church at 1:30 and will be there by 2:00 p.m.  This is for scouts that are 14 years old or older.  It will last about 2 hours.  Located near Marsh and Frankfurt.  You can see Highway 190 from there.

Closing Remarks

Next Committee meeting is scheduled for March 23rd.  Camporee is the first weekend of April.  Today’s meeting was concluded at 9:15 a.m.
