  • Troop Elections at next Tuesday’s meeting on August 6, 2002.
  • Scout Night at SLRBC on September 10, 2002.  Brother Randy would like to see all Scouts there if at all possible.  A pizza party will follow the services.

Website / Newsletter

  • Mr. Warrick has added pictures from Camp Pioneer.  Need a date for August for Bowling event.  Reached last calendar on calendar page.  Hits on website average around 450 times per month.

Scoutmaster Report

·        This coming Tuesday will have elections for SPL.  Justin Webb and Nathan Lacey are in the running for this position.  Mr. Wilt is preparing a ballot slip that includes a short bio on the candidates.

·        Bowling will be on Tuesday, August 13th to Main Event or some other bowling facility.  Dress for this night out will be Class B (green shirts).  Location will be announced later.  Mrs. Schreibfeder will check to see if we can book the Main Event as if it were for a birthday party and get reduced rates for events such as bowling, laser tag and a gaming card.

·        Mr. Wilt will review calendars to determine dates that are available for events.  Band schedule and Scout District scheduled events will be factored into the list of available dates for the Planning Session scheduled for August 24th.

·        Summer Camp was great!  More information from Mr. Green follows.

·        Adult Training Opportunities take place on September 28th at St. Lukes or Plymouth Park Methodist Church, 8:00 p.m. (New Leader Essentials).  This is a prerequisite for adults interested in becoming “Adult Leader Trained” in the Spring to more fully participate in Troop events.

Summer Camp

·        Mr. Green said we were still missing some advancements from Summer Camp.  Mrs. Kressmann said we are still missing advancements for six (6) scouts.  Camp has provided a refund to the Troop for overpayment.  Mrs. Schreibfeder will help to figure out who gets the refund credit and the rest will go into the Troop General Fund.

·        We garnered a lot of awards (Top Skit, Top New Scout, Top Archery, Top Shot Gun, Top Olympics) at Summer Camp.  Mr. Hohnholt has a video of the events at Summer Camp to show at the Court of Honor.  Camp Pioneer proved to be an excellent camp for new scouts (Scout Skills were outstanding).

·        Next year’s summer camp will need to be determined soon.  We are on the call list for the camp in Oklahoma.  We need a few more choices for the planning meeting.  We should plan on fifty (50) attendees for next year.

·        Mr. Hohnholt said we should set up some ground rules for next year’s summer camp.  Ground rules for sending scouts home should be pre-stated so they can be discussed between the parent and the scout before sending them off to summer camp.  Some of these rules should apply to all camp events and not just summer camp.  Not sure these will all be “zero tolerance” type policies but need to be effectively administered.  The Committee suggested we develop a “Behavior Contract” that needs to be signed by each scout prior to a camping event or at least once per year.  Probably should include the wording of the contract on each permission slip for camping events.  Mr. Hohnholt will prepare a rough draft based on issues that has come up at previous camping events and the draft will be presented to the Troop leadership at the Planning Conference for their review as a starting point for the development of a final version.

Outdoor Activities

  • Bowling is the last currently scheduled outdoor activity.  This will take place on August 13th.  Place is not currently set yet.  See Scoutmaster Report, above, for more details.
  • September’s event will need to be scheduled very soon if it requires advanced reservations.  Turner Falls has a refund credit available that may expire soon due to the rain out from September last year.  Mr. Wilt will check to see what weekend is best for the camp out.
  • Mr. Piper will check to see when the St. Ann’s weekend will occur.  Our Troop usually offers to provide campers willing to spend the night at the site patrolling the grounds.
  • Mr. Smith said that perhaps our Troop should participate in a joint Troop-Webelos camp out in January.  February 22nd will be the schedule for a single major cross over event.  More information will be forthcoming.

Treasurer’s Report

·        Mr. Piper, as Troop Auditor, presented the Treasurer’s Report.  Troop is still solvent.

Fund Raiser

·        Chili Supper will need to start being planned soon.  Mr. Shyne is the event chair person but was not present to provide an update.

·        Popcorn sales start on October 3rd.  Mrs. Schreibfeder will check with Ms. Ezelle to see if she wants to be the Popcorn chairperson for this year.  If not, on Tuesday evening at the Parent’s Meeting we will ask for a volunteer for this position.

·        School Night for Scouting will take place on August 29th.  The Training Sessions will take place on August 15th for CISD (at CMSE) at 7:00 PM.  We will put up a sign up sheet for the Scouts to see if they will participate in School Night for Scouting events.  This will provide Service Hours for the Scouts that participate.

Equipment Report

·        All equipment is currently located in the storage area.  Mr. Green feels we will need to take inventory of the tents and lanterns that are still functional.  Mr. Kim was not here so we don’t know if the list that was started of missing/failing equipment was completed.  On Tuesday, August 20th, we need to set up all tents to determine if the poles can be matched up with tents and to check to see if they are functional and complete.  The Committee decided that we should not allow tents to go home with scouts again.  We need to address how we clean up and dry out tents after camp outs.  Some suggestions are to come back to church at 12:30 PM following a camp out but not to allow parents to pick up scouts until around 3:00 after tents are set back up and cleaned out.

·        Mr. Wilt stated that our dining fly is nearly unusable because you have to pound it together and pound it apart.  The frame work is badly flattened.  Mr. Davis will check to see if he has paperwork related to the acquisition of the rain fly work.  He will provide this to Mr. Wilt to see if we can replace the corner joints and some of the poles.

OA Report

·        Hosted the Kwahadi (Troop 9, Amarillo, TX) on Saturday evening.  August 17th is the call out at Camp Wisdom.  Mr. Wilt stated that we will have some preprinted ballots for the next OA election.  This will include requirements for OA, what OA is all about and who is eligible for the election.  Used to have a quorum of at least 50% of the Troop present for the election.  That may no longer be a requirement.  However, to be elected, a Scout must get at least 50% or better of the vote cast.  There will be an OA Ordeal September 6th through the 8th at Camp Wisdom.  Fellowship at Camp Constantin (please check www.miki.org) on September 20th through the 22nd.

Membership / Advancements

  • Mrs. Kressmann said we will have a three (3) hour Court of Honor on August 25th, 2:00 p.m. at the SLRBC.
  • David Day’s Eagle Court of Honor on August 17th, 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church.
  • Nick Radcliffe has his Eagle Project August 10th and 11th.

Senior Patrol Leader

  • The Senior Patrol Leader was not present and no one filled in for him today.  We have no update at this time.

High Adventure / Venture

·        Discussion is taking place of the events that will be planned.  Events under consideration sound very interesting!  Mr. Hohnholt will provide details later.
