  • November Parent’s Meeting is 29-October-2002.
  • Theme for next weekend’s campout will be Engineering.
  • Next Roundtable is scheduled for 18-November-2002.
  • December’s Committee meeting is 14-December-2002.
  • December’s Parent’s Meeting is 17-December-2002.

Website / Newsletter

  • Web site has been rearranged and it looks really great!
  • Still some problems with E-Mail group address list.  Still working out problems.  Mr. Rabbitt is coordinating this.

Scoutmaster Report

·                                                                    Mr. Wilt provided the Scoutmaster’s Report.  Those attending this next weekend’s campout will leave on Friday night from SLRBC to Lake Ray Roberts.  Due to away football game on Friday night, some Scouts will be coming up on Saturday morning.  Mr. Smith will ask the Scouts that aren’t going on the bike ride to build a Jacob’s Ladder.  Bike riders will need to wear helmets on their heads.  The distance is around eleven (11) miles for the bike ride.  There are maps on the website about the campsite at Lake Ray Roberts.

·                                                                    The National Scouting Museum is now open in Irving.  This Museum is supposed to have some great artwork and some interactive hands-on activities.  Mr. Wilt has suggested that we plan a Troop outing to the Museum.  The Committee Members suggested that we look at this for an August activity.

·                                                                    In December at Trotter’s Land, we’ll have the first annual Scout Master Cooking Contest between the different Patrols.  We will solicit judges for the taste testing.  We are asking the Venturing group members to join us as the judges.  There may be 4 or 5 awards for different categories (best meal, best desert, most difficult, etc.).  Awards might be that the adults clean up for the one awarded the most difficult.  Still looking for additional award ideas.

·                                                                    Adult leader training forms are being returned.  The knot is green and the form is white.  They will be given to the adults that earned them at the next Court of Honor.

Outdoor Activities

·                    Mr. Nawoj is filling in for Mrs. Schreibfeder.  We have six sites reserved in the Hawthorne section for November 1 and 2 at Lake Ray Roberts.  Water only on the site.  No electricity.  First come first serve starting at 2:00 PM.  Still recommend that the Scouts bring in water from some other source.  Bikes will be put in the green trailer.  The sites are 1/8 mile from the parking lot.  We need a head count at Tuesday night’s meeting so we can determine if we need all of the sites.  The Transportation sheet for this trip is being passed around for drivers.  We’re returning at 12:00 PM to the old Food Lion parking lot (NOT SLRBC).

·                    For December Rush Creek Ranch has been reserved for December 6-8.  Dr. Lacey will bring two (2) telescopes to the Rush Creek Ranch (Trotter’s Land) campout.  Should be a super event if it’s a clear night!

·                    Coppell Camporee is at Camp Wisdom in January.  We are planning to attend.

·                    Summer Camp is reserved at Camp Hale in OK has been reserved for July 20th to the 26th, 2003.

·                    Camp Constantin’s reservation will be cancelled since we’re going to Camp Hale.  Mr. Green will handle this.

Treasurer’s Report

·                                                                    Mr. Langworthy has given the Treasurer’s Report.  The Troop is still solvent.

·                                                                    Ms. Cauley agreed to add a check box to the list to get a Scout Master conference scheduled which will indicate whether the Scout is up to date on their dues with the Troop.  Since the Troop uses the dues to help pay for advancements, it makes sense to have Scouts up to date on their dues before receiving advancements.  Any Scout that has any difficulty meeting these obligations should discuss the matter with Mrs. Kressmann and she will see if financial aid is required to resolve the issue.

·                                                                    A motion was made by Dr. Lacey and seconded by Mr. Nawoj and the motion carried that a Scout may use their Individual Scout Fundraising Money for their Eagle ceremony expenses in addition to all Summer Camp and High Adventure or Venture camping expenses.

Equipment Report

·                                                                    Mr. Kim said that all of the equipment is there.

·                                                                    Mr. Wilt said the tongue lock on the green trailer was missing.

·                                                                    Mr. Dillon will order the wheel lock that was approved at the meeting three month’s ago today.  Please ask Mr. Dillon about this at Tuesday’s Parent’s Meeting!

·                                                                    Mr. Kim will go to the storage area and ask about a smaller sized unit and how much it will cost to renew the unit.

OA Report

·                                                                    There is an OA event scheduled for the same time as our next campout.  However, if a Scout participates at the OA event, they do get credit for going to our campout event, too.  Therefore, if we can get a volunteer for this event, that would be great.

Advancements

  • Ms. Cauley reported for Advancements.  Mrs. Kressmann asked her to inquire about the requirement for the Scout Behavior Contract being submitted complete before being able to attend the November camp out.
  • There is an advancement area on the website and there is a section on Golden Acorn or Oakleaf.  Ms. Cauley will have the Golden Acorn and Oakleaf information printed out and available for the Parent’s Meeting this coming Tuesday.  We are typically limited to eight Scouts for Oakleaf training.  A Scout must be First Class and thirteen years of age to attend Oakleaf.  Oakleaf is required before a Scout can attend Golden Acorn.
  • Mr. Warrick will be contacted to see if he would be willing to gather the information to develop a pseudo-newsletter.  Mr. Warrick, if he is willing, should E-Mail the newsletter info to Matt Bohn by Tuesday morning so he can print off copies to the meeting (60 copies) for hand out on Tuesday evening.
  • There is an Eagle ceremony for Sam Hudson today at 4:00 p.m.

Membership

  • On December 3rd, we will have Lee Elementary School Webelos joining us for our Troop Meeting.

Senior Patrol Leader

  • Master Justin Webb stated that we’re still a troop.  No other comments.

Chili Supper

·                    Mr. Bloss gave the Chili report.  We bought 480 pounds of meet for the chili supper.  We need to have the Scouts make a last minute push on ticket sales.

·                    Pre-cook is at 2:00 p.m. at the CHS on November 3, 2002.  Dr. Lacey will have a schedule prepared in case someone needs to cover for him.  He is on call for Sunday.

·                    CMS North will be able to join us for Chili supper.

·                    The hot dogs should be delivered to the CHS by 3:00 PM on Friday, 09-November-2002.

·                    Mr. Bloss will call Mr. Shyne to find out about whether we will have “to go” boxes arranged for.

·                    Dr. Lacey believes we should try to secure some card board boxes to facilitate the removal and transport of many pints of chili purchased at the end of the night.

High Adventure / Venture

·                    Nothing to report.

Additional Announcements

  • Popcorn orders are due by this Tuesday evening, 29-October-2002.  Popcorn must be picked up on November 9th at Mr. Bohn’s house.  The time will be dependent on when we get to pick up the popcorn from the warehouse.  Mr. Bohn will provide the address to those that sell popcorn.

PHILMONT 2004 RESERVATION

CALL-A-THON

On Saturday, November 9, 2002 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Central Daylight Time the Philmont Scout Ranch will be taking telephone reservations on a first come first serve basis at this toll free number.

1-800-962-4000

This will be our last chance to get guaranteed reservations for our scouts for Philmont.  Based on past tries this will be an endurance test on the phone trying to get through.

The Plan:

1. I need as many volunteer callers as we can get to call.

2. We must do the most calls at the beginning.  There is no limit to how many treks each caller can ask for and the treks will be full well before the 1 p.m. cut-off.

3. If you get through sign Troop 840 up for 2 treks.

4. YOU WILL BE ASKED FOR # OF YOUTH = 12, # OF ADULTS = 8 TOTAL = 20.

5. YOU WILL BE ASKED FOR PREFERRED DATES.  The preferred dates will be early in the season.  Any June date will do, but take any date we can get.  The treks can be on separate weeks, but it would be preferred if the treks were all on the same week.  THE GOAL IS TO GET RESERVATIONS!

6. Contact Info: Gary Green, 623 Hood Dr. Coppell, Tx 75019. 972-462-0641. Use this for each caller.

If one of us gets through and makes the reservation then the computer will not allow anyone else to make a reservation.

Since there will be no way to communicate to the callers during the call-a-thon to how see how we are doing, please keep trying to get through for as long as you can.

If you get a reservation made be sure to call me after the 1 p.m. cut-off.

I will report the results at the Tuesday, November 12, Scout Mtg at the Church.

If you have any questions call me at 972-462-0641 (home), 972-579-4418 (work), e-mail @ greenshack@attbi.com

Thanks for you time and help, and GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!!.
