The Troop 840
committee met November 3, 2001, at Sandy Lake Road Baptist
Church. Mr. Dillon, chairman, called the meeting to order
at 8 AM with 18 present. The minutes were approved as
printed. Mr. Piper sent word that we are ahead of last
year’s income and in super shape. Dr. Lacey distributed
copies of the treasurer’s report, budget, and projected
income for him. The finance subcommittee recommends the
following: 10% of Chili Dinner proceeds, matched $/$ with
accumulated funds be given to charity. The Scouts will
vote to designate the recipient. This funding will continue
until the surplus is retired. Dollar amount will vary
by year depending on the size of the troop. Mrs. Warrick
2nd the recommendation. The motion passed. Dr. Lacey will
present this to PLC. Metrocrest Service center, Council
Camp pavilions and 9 Circle Ten low income area troops
who have to have a professional scoutmaster (membership
fees, camperships - $10,000/yr, advancement supplies -
$2500/yr, uniform assistance and camping supplies) are
the choices. We are on the waiting list again for Philmont
2003. Thanks to those who called. Mrs. Shyne was able
to get through. The Chili Dinner last night was well executed
and profitable. The 5/8 ton of chili served 651 people.
Some bills are yet to be paid. A final report will be
presented at the Dec. Committee meeting. Mr. Shyne did
a FANTASTIC job. How !! How !! Thanks also to Mr. Kim
for the purchasing and Mr. Applegate for the food chopper.
The November camp out theme is Astronomy. We will travel
to north Wise Co to Dr. Trotter’s ranch for 2 nights.
This time of year has a good sky!!. The lower pond is
good for fishing. The troop will do a 5 mile hike Saturday
AM. Use the blue permission slips. Check the web page
for maps. A survey for adding the Eagle Quest to the web
page is on our web site. The newsletter would be PQF.
The troop needs a new transportation chair. Mr. Davis
offered his resignation as Scoutmaster. His prospective
job has weekends, swing shifts, and includes travel. He
will switch his registration to Assistant Scoutmaster.
Dr. Lacey moved, Mr. Warrick 2nd that Mr. Dillon, Mr.
Davis and Mr. Gary Smith become the search committee.
Motion passed. Jason Brandt, ASPL, represented the Scouts.
He praised the Chili Supper ad made the following announcements:
Nov 11 YMCA for 2nd Class and 1st Class swim requirements.
Matt Fuglie has instructed the troop guides to sign off
requirements as the Scouts complete them. Summer camp
deposits are due. Our choices are 1) Camp Pioneer in Arkansas,
2) Camp Tom Hale in Oklahoma,3) in council, Camp Constantine.
We have 2 campsites reserved at Camp James Ray on Lake
Texoma as a backup. Seabase in Florida is over July 4
weekend. Richard Hohnholt is coordinator for High Adventure.
Nathan Brown and Gary Warrick, Jr. have aged out. Mr.
Bohn presented the data on storage rentals. Mr. Warrick
moved, Mr. Applegate 2nd That we rent a 10x10 from Shugard
for one year. Motion passed. Mr. Bohn will bring the contract
for Mr. Dillon to sign on Tuesday. Mrs. Warrick moved,
Mr. Langworthy 2nd, the troop will pay for the knife blanks
and supplies used to create Eagle knives. Motion passed.
A volunteer is needed 11-09 to pull the small trailer
to Farmers Branch to pick up the popcorn at the warehouse
on Valwood. The scouts can pick up their popcorn to deliver
on Saturday 11-10 at 8AM. Money is due back to Mrs. Ezzell
11-27. We want to show the YPT film “A Time to Tell” to
the boys. Parents need to give permission first. The film
will be shown at the same meeting that Dr. Lacey gives
his talk about drugs. Jan18, 2002, is the Western Star
District Dinner. We will reserve 2 tables. The tickets
are $15/each. Make reservations through Mr. Gary Smith.
Our troop nomination for district STAR has been filed.
The meeting adjourned at 9:30 AM. The next meeting is
Dec.1, 8AM, at Coppell library. _______________________________________________________________
