I.          Call to Order

  • Mr. Broom called the meeting to order at 8:08 a.m.  The painting to the right is titled “America’s Manpower Begins With Boy power”.  The man in the back row with a campaign hat on is Alden Barber.  Chief Scout Executive when the painting was painted.  He has passed away in the past few months.

II.                Past Events

o       Camp Bartle: Mr. Wilt said that this was a very good camp.  It is a long camp but a great camp.  The Scouts went to the leaders and said, “We WILL come back next year”.  It was the first time that has ever happened.  The real difference is the Tribe of Mic-O-Say.  All of the adult leaders became honorary Warriors and all of the Scouts became Foxman.

o       Cavalcade Participants don’t arrive until tomorrow so there is no update available at this time.  Mr. Green said he had talked to them on Sunday evening and it was obvious they were all pretty awestruck.  The participants were the Smiths, The Hohnholts, The Shynes, Jim Bob, Jason Brandt, Greg Langworthy, Andrew Green, Nathan Lacey, Daniel Piper, Chris Berdan and Isaac Lee.

o       The Caving Campout:  Scouts came out muddy and all had a great time!  Went swimming and jumped off rocks into the water.  There is a great picture on the website with a scout jumping into the water.  The weather cooperated and it started to rain right after they were packed up to leave on Sunday morning.  It was a great place and it should be scheduled to go back to.  It was cool in the caves.  The water was warm to swim.

III.             Future Events

  • Softball Game Cooking:  Mrs. Bohn said that August 3rd is the date for the Police-Fireman softball game.  We need to have volunteers and barbecue grills for the event.  The Troop will count Scout participation toward Service Hours.  The set up time is 6:30 p.m. and should be done around 8:30 p.m.

  • Mr. Green said that Camp Hale is almost completely ready.  We are missing medical forms for John Nam, Carter Sundermann, Jacob Owens, and adult Mr. Sundermann.  27-Scouts are signed up with eight adults.  Six of the Scouts are the new Scouts.  They are signed up for the “Trail to First Class”.  OA Call Out scheduled for this camp out.  6:30 on Sunday, 20-July-2003, will be the time to leave from Kroger parking lot.  Parent Meeting on Tuesday, 15-July-2003, will take place as scheduled.  It will take about 4:00 hours to get to the camp.  Will probably stop for lunch before entering camp site.  Mr. Ghaly will pull the trailer.  Mr. Wilt will follow him.  There will be a dinner on Friday evening that parents are allowed to come to.  Need to get a count for dinner before the Scout leaves on Sunday.  Scouts that did not get a swim check ahead of time will need to get them at the camp.  Campsite is Sacnfox.  Has close proximity to dining hall.  Gear must be loaded onto a camp vehicle.  Trailers can be left at the camp site.  Discussion was held about whether we should go to a Council Camp next summer.  Due to our large group going to Philmont, we will probably schedule an “in Council” camp next summer.  Mr. Green will put in an application for a Council Camp within the next few weeks.

  • School Night For Scouting coming up in August.  No one contacted about that yet.

  • Program Preview coming up Monday night after Softball game.

  • Planning Conference:  Mr. Wilt said he is working on schedules now.  It will be done at Dr. Lacey’s camp house in August.

  • August Outing: Mr. Wilt said at Lake Lewisville on the weekend before School starts.  Just a Saturday night camp out.  This is set for August 16th.  Must be out by noon on the 17th.  Troop gets $50.00 back if we clean up real well.

IV.              Reports

  • Treasurer’s Report:  Mr. Langworthy said the Troop is still solvent.  Scribe collections have picked up since the June Committee Meeting.  Church has donated funds to a “project fund” for the Troop to help with projects similar to that which were recently done at SLRBC.

  • Equipment:  Mr. Green said the trailer has been cleaned out.  The bulb has been replaced.  New poles are in and new tarps are in.  They will work on the lanterns at Camp Hale.

  • Transportation: Mr. Rabbitt was not available for a report.

  • Advancement: Mrs. Cauley

V.                 Action Items

  • Adult Leadership Opportunities:  Mr. Broom has identified three positions that need to be filled and he would like to get new parents involved if at all possible.  This will help their Scout’s experience in the long run.  Communications Coordinator, Den Chief Coach, Literature and Insignia Supplier are the three new positions.  If anyone has an interest in one of these positions, we would love to hear from you!  Please contact Mr. Forrest Broom, Committee Chair.

  • Chili Supper Issue:  We will no longer be able to have the Chili Supper the evening of the Homecoming Football game.  It is possible to have the supper the evening of the home coming parade the evening before the final game.  We can also have the chili supper the evening of the South Lake Carroll vs Coppell basketball game in February.  Mr. Shyne will get with Dr. Lacey and Mrs. Wilt to discuss what might work logistically for this cook out.

VI.              Discussion

  • SPL Remarks:  SPL is not available because he is at Philmont.  Elections are coming up for new positions in August.  Sign up sheets will be made available at Summer Camp and will be available for a week after Summer Camp.

  • SM Remarks:  Order of the Arrow.  We will have some Scouts called out at Camp Hale.  He has the paperwork all lined out for this event.  There will be one adult called out at Camp Hale, too.  Some of the Scouts are getting a little older but have not achieved First Class.  They will be pushed and pulled on while at Summer Camp.

  • Others:  Mrs. Schreibfeder said that as soon as the Scouts have determined what the September camping event will be, she needs to be notified so that she can make the reservations for the camp out.

VII.           Summary & Adjournment

  • Mr. Broom adjourned the meeting at 9:27 a.m.
