Committee Minutes  T-840,BSA      June 2, 2001

The meeting was called to order at Cozby Library, Coppell, 8:10 AM by Billy Dillon, chairman, with 19 present. Minutes from the last meeting were approved. Rich Piper, treasurer, circulated cash flow reports and a projection of expenses for the rest of the year. The troop is financially sound.

Mark Senior SPL reported good camping on the Brazos River canoe trip. The only problem was sunburn. The 45 Scouts were divided by experience level for canoeing. Younger Scouts chose between morning and afternoon excursions. The older boys were on the water for 8 hours. Rain came during the night, so most stayed dry. The trip to Turner Falls is cancelled for July.

Ambrosia Kim, equipment, says we were 4 tents short for the trip. The older tents are wearing out, either canvas or poles. REI will repair the cloth and zippers. Pole styles have changed in the interval since purchase. New tents of a similar model will cost $160 each. Martha Otwell moved, 2nd Paul Bloss, to delay the purchase until August. Motion passed. The dining fly poles need to be evaluated.

Summer Camp Season is here. The Sea Base crew has shipped their gear and will depart this Tuesday. The James Ray campers leave June 10 7:30 AM from the Kroger parking lot. This group consists of 41 Scouts and their support adults. Scouts attending Camp James Ray need to take $0.50 to purchase rifle rounds from the trading post. The WY2001 trek leaves July 6 for Yellowstone National Park and Camp Buffalo Bill. Adults for both high adventure trips are current on YPT.

Debbie Warrick, camping, requests drivers license #'s and liability insurance coverage info on all drivers. A change in Circle Ten regs requires that a current listing be attached to each tour permit application. Maureen Schreibfeder will call all adults whose info is not in the data base.

Scouts need 60% attendance camping and meetings to qualify as ACTIVE. Patrol attendance lists will be posted on each parent meeting night for verification. Written corrections should be given to Richard Hohnholt or Margaret Kressmann within 2 weeks. Check the troop handbook for further detail on this policy.

The next Court of Honor is August 26, 2 PM, at Sandy Lake Road Baptist Church. Cut off date is Tuesday, August 14. Scouts need to finish their summer camp merit badge partials by this date or prepare to wait until the January court.

Venture groups from the Coppell Scout troops are exploring joint outings. This will allow the older boys challenging experiences with their peers. In time this joint group could evolve into a Venturing Unit with its own charter. A Meet- the-Scouts session is June 5, 6 PM, Rejoice Lutheran Church.

Gary Warrick, Sr. asked for T-840 photos to be included on the website.

The next committee meeting is August 4, 8 AM, Cozby Library. Billy Dillon adjourned the meeting at 9:20 AM.
