Committee Minutes  T-840,BSA      April 7, 2001

The April meeting of the troop committee was called to order by Billy Dillon, Committee Chairman, on April 4, 2001, 8:00 AM, at Cozby Library, Coppell TX. with 19 present.  The monthly theme is "Scout Skills".  No minutes were available from the March meeting.

The treasurer's report shows a balance of $24,918.86.  This includes prepaid fees for high adventure camps, Camp James Ray and Scout Buck Auction funds and will rapidly decrease as payments come due.

Mark Senior, SPL, has an update of staff.  The troop equipment has been inventoried.  To keep the tents from being so muddy, heavy-duty plastic sheeting will be cut to fit inside each tent.  The theme for Scout Show, May 12, is dutch oven cooking.  Scout Show staffing will be coordinated by the SPL and ASPLs.  Mr. Shyne and Mr. Powers distributed tickets at the last troop meeting.  Money is due May 9.

Waid Davis, Scoutmaster, reported that OA Dance Teams from Coppell are doing most of the crossovers and demos at pack meetings.  Good showing at the Camporee.  The troop trailers need maintenance to keep the shells from rusting through - at least sand and prime.  With the large number of Life Scouts in T-840, the Eagle candidates need to have their paperwork reviewed by their Eagle coaches, rather than make this process part of the Scoutmaster conference.  Preston Dunn, Sr. will schedule a training session for Eagle coaches to review the paperwork format and requirements.

Mrs. Warrick has reserved the primitive area on the north side of Lake Ray Roberts, April 27-29, for the troop family campout.  Chemical toilets are available, but no potable water.  Cost $50/night and annual state park pass.  The scouts will leave from SLRBC at 6 PM Friday night.  The family group will leave from SLRBC on Saturday AM at 8 AM to be in camp for demonstrations, games, campfire and meals.  Any new scout must have his medical form and picture turned into Mrs. Cauley or advancement to be eligible to attend this encampment.  Permission slips need to be returned to Mrs. Schreibfeder or Mrs. Warrick.

The last payment for WY2001 is due May 20.  Physicals for all camps are due June 1.  All adults going to camp must be current on YPT.  Martha Otwell will schedule this training after April 12.

Martha Otwell has volunteered to be Camp Scoutmaster at James Ray in June.  The site for camp 2002 needs to be chosen so that we get preference by turning in the form at camp 2001.  Swim check will be scheduled at YMCA in May before the canoe trip.

Mr. Kim, Equipment, found that our REI tents are under warranty and will be repaired free.  The poles are not under warranty.  We will replace the shock cords ourselves.  A dutch oven fell out of the trailer, cracked and needs to be replaced.  Propane costs $10/large tank and $6/smaller tank.  The four new sets of equipment keys will be held by SPL, Quartermaster, Scoutmaster and Mr. Kim.  Mr. Applegte will fabricate a metal top for the personal equipment carrier.  A pickup bed cover is the correct width, but two feet short.

Mrs. Lacey, Membership, rechartered T-840 with 52 adults and 58 Scouts.  We are a quality unit for 2001.  Twelve Webelos have crossed over to our troop so far.  Retention can be better if the new boys have a buddy, an older scout who will help him through the first year.  Mr. Bloss would like a list of pack contacts to mail notices to during the year.

Gary Warrick Sr. paid for our web site March 16, with Timehost.  The one year domain name registration and six month fee was $69.  Nine dollars per month payments start in September.  Our address is http://www.troop840.org.  REI has an affiliate program where goods ordered through a link off our web site will result in a rebate for the troop.  Preston Dunn Sr. will check the Circle Ten policy on affiliate programs.

Mike Otwell, SM Venture, noted that Aaron Lee is the new crew chief.  Venture patrol meetings are 2nd and 4th Tuesday, 6:15 PM, SLRBC.  Joint outings are proposed with the older Scouts at Riverside and St.Ann.

Sea Base contingent will certify at the Athens Scuba Dive Park April 14-15.  The overnight will be at the Nichols cabin.  Last installment of $220 is due April 30 along with medicals.

Scout Bucks cutoff is May 1.  Scout Buck Auction is May 14, at Valley View Baptist Church.  Preview starts at 6PM, the auction at 7PM.  Texx is our auctioneer.  New boys who make Scout, attend meetings and pay dues will have 12,000 bucks to spend.  The shopping trip to REI and Bass-Pro is April 21.  We need five more shoppers.  Marsha NIchols, Debbie Warrick and Maureen Schreibfeder are part of the team.

The next Court of Honor is May 22, during troop meeting.  Cutoff for advancement is May 8.

Billy Dillon announced the next meeting will be May 5, 8AM, at Cozby Library, Coppell.  The meeting adjourned at 9:20AM.
