Eagle Resources

Below is a quick list of documents that we hope will be helpful in your quest for the Eagle rank.  The accuracy of the information will only be as good as the currency of the updated files.  So help your next Eagle friend by sending updates to the web. This is especially pertinent to the address file which is always changing.

After the Eagle project is completed you will now start one of the most labor intensive jobs that will need to be accomplished.  Namely sending out letters of congratulations to important people.  Below I have assembled the files necessary to merge a form letter with an address database.

What is mail merge?
A special feature in your word program that takes repetitive information from one file, such as names, and address and combines (merges) with a form document or letter that is inserted at user defined points within that document.  This is really slick when it works and will save your many hours.

Gathering the information needed
Download the files below to your hard drive noting where you stored them. I will walk you through using Microsoft Office XP.  One file, the data file, will contain the names, and address.  Another file, the form document, will be the basic letter you wish to send. The last file is for the envelopes.

Putting the merge together
Open a blank document. On the tools menu, point to "Letters and Mailing" and then click "Mail Merge Wizard". Under "Select document type" click "Letters".  Click "Next: Starting document" "Start from existing document".  Select the Letter File.  Next "Select Recipients" select Address File, select "All","OK" "Write your letters"" then print. Congrats you are a wizard.
