2019 Northeast Region Eagle Project of the Year: A smarter way to filter storm water

Posted on Aug 22 2019 - 11:29am

When it rains in cities and towns across the U.S., it pours. And in this case, “it” refers to oil, salt, gasoline and other debris that gets washed down the road and into rivers, lakes and streams. Bioswales are nature’s filter for this repugnant runoff. Strategically placed along roadsides and filled with mulch or native plants, bioswales absorb the gunk and let clean water pass through. Or, at least that’s the way they’re supposed to work. Unfortunately, all 30 bioswales in the borough of Ohiopyle, Pa., had seen better days. They were clogged with debris and overrun with weeds. For the past seven years, officials had tried, unsuccessfully, to fix the bioswales. And then, at last, a Scout came along.  Click to read more about this AWARD WINNING EAGLE PROJECT.

Merit Badge Counselor Application Process

Posted on Aug 16 2019 - 4:46am

If you are interested in becoming a Merit Badge Counselor check out the list of Merit Badges under the "Merit Badges" link on the Menu to the left.  Click HERE to find the necessary information form and HERE to complete the BSA Adult application with position Code 42 (Merit Badge Counselor).  Turn all completed forms and supporting documents in to Mike Gandy for review.  All Merit badge counselors must register as adult Scouters and be approved by the council advancement committee for each merit badge listed on this Merit Badge Counselor Information form. A merit badge counselor does not have to pay a registration fee, but must complete an Adult Application for position code 42, fill out this form, and complete BSA Youth Protection training.  Submit the Adult Application with the Merit Badge Counselor Information form to your Troop Merit Badge coordinator, who will review and submit to the district and council.  Counselors may wish to associate with a particular unit but are encouraged to serve any Scout from any unit.
